Our Dental Implants

Are you missing a tooth or multiple teeth and want to replace them? Dental implants treatment provides a solution to missing teeth and prevents trauma surrounding the missing tooth or teeth.

Implant Dentistry Explained

A dental implant is inserted into the jawbone, preventing surrounding teeth from rotating and shifting out of place. Dental implants treatment can help to restore a smile by replacing a missing tooth. At the same time, it prevents the surrounding teeth from being affected by the placement of a traditional bridge.

Dental Bridges

Dental implants treatment can also help replace missing teeth with the placement of an implant supported bridge. They can also be used to replace all your teeth in one jaw arch, using four or more dental implants.

At Sublime Dental®, we only use the best quality implants and procedures. We use implants backed by 20 years of scientific research to ensure that implant componentry will always be available for the life of your dental implant, no matter which country you travel to.

The Implant Procedure in 4 appointments

Appointment 1

To assess your ability for a dental implant treatment, we will require you to come in for an initial consultation. Then, together with you, our team can decide which course of action would best suit you and your budget.

Appointment 2

The beginning of the implant procedure is a thorough clean and scale of the affected area. Then one of our dental professionals will place a lightweight, titanium implant into your jawbone. Once the dental implant is inserted into the jawbone, the implant is then given time to ‘mature’ within the bone via the process of osseointegration.

The titanium is biocompatible to reduce the (very small) risk of your body rejecting the implant. The osseointegration process can take between 3 to 6 months depending on:

  • your oral health
  • whether the implant’s placed in your upper or lower jaw
  • whether you smoke or not

Appointment 3

Typically, after 3 to 6 months the implant has matured and fused to the bone. An abutment will be attached to the implant to provide a sturdy anchor for your personalised crown (prosthetic tooth).

This appointment is also when a mould is taken of your teeth and sent to the lab where you prosthetic tooth will be fabricated.

Appointment 4

Your crown or bridge will be placed on top of the abutment to complete your restoration.

Down Time

Healing may take between three and six months. In some cases, if your medical history is ideal and the surrounding bone is also good, the healing may go quicker. If the donor site has had the tooth missing for some time and a bone graft is required, the implant treatment time is extended and may take longer than six months.

Metal Allergies

If you have a metal allergy and cannot take our titanium implants, we also offer metal-free implant alternatives.

Treatment that can last a lifetime

If you take care of your oral health, a dental implant can last a lifetime. The biggest cause of implant failure is gum disease. When it happens to a dental implant, it is known as peri-implantitis.

Preventing peri-implantitis can be quite simple. All you need to do is brush and floss your teeth every day as well as visit Sublime Dental every six months. These six-monthly check-ups are important to ensure you’re in good oral health. And, if any gum-related problems start presenting, these can be treated during your check-up.

The implant can last a lifetime

The implant itself can last for the rest of your life. The dental crown, bridge or denture attached to the implant gets replaced every 15 to 20 years.

A traditional denture or dental bridge only takes care of your smile above the gum line. Which provides no support to your jawbone, and so you have to change the restoration more often as your jawbone shrinks.

Whereas the permanence of the implant provides support for your jaw as soon as it successfully integrates with your jawbone.

Questions and Considerations

How much do dental implants cost?

The cost of a dental implant can vary greatly depending on the type of implant required and condition of the supporting jaw bone. During your initial dental implant consultation, we will provide you an outline of the expected costs for the procedure.

In Australia, dental implants generally range from $4,500 – $7,500 per tooth implant. However, costs may vary depending on the specific procedure.

Who should consider getting this treatment?

Patients who have medical or other conditions which may interfere with the healing process of either their bones or soft tissues* must carefully evaluate the potential risks and benefits of using dental implants.

*e.g., connective tissue disorders, steroid therapy, bone infections, osteoporosis, bone density loss, or cigarette smoking.

Am I a good candidate for this treatment?

Before treatment patients must undergo a medical/oral health evaluation. This will determine if the implant placement procedure poses any risk. It will also determine if any factors exist that could negatively affect the healing capacity of either jaw bone or associated soft tissues.

What are the benefits of replacing missing teeth?

Improved appearance – dental implants look like your own teeth. If they are done correctly, they can also provide you with a much more beautiful smile.

Improved speech – dental implants allow you to speak without the worry that a denture might come loose.

Improved comfort – they become a part of you, eliminating the discomfort of removable dentures.

Improved eating –they function like your own teeth, allowing you to better chew and digest your food.

Improved self-esteem – dental implants can help you to look younger and feel better about yourself.

Improved oral hygiene – allows for easier access between your teeth, so you can brush and floss better.

Improved oral health – unlike a tooth-supported bridge, dental implants do not require reducing other teeth. Because nearby teeth are not altered to support the implant, more of your own teeth are left intact, improving your long-term oral health.
